AERCT & African Bay Hospitality Group Partner to Make 2010 Better!

P1010586The Afrisun East Rand Community Trust (AERCT) has teamed up with African Bay Hospitality Group with an eye on improving service in the Ekurhuleni hospitality industry ahead of the FIFA Soccer World Cup.

The partnership will see African Bay Hospitality Group MD Hans Neuer and Training Manager Nicolette Steenkamp spearheading a programme, with funding and support from the AERCT, which will train and develop service industry staff across the board, including bar service attendants, waitron service attendants and scullery/cleaning service attendants in Ekurhuleni ahead of the World Cup in June. The courses, which have already produced their first set of graduates, are based within THETA standards.

Neuer, who has decades of experience in the service industry, spotted the gap for well-trained staff at all levels during the Confederations Cup in mid-2009. “The levels of service for our local and international guests which I observed during the Confederations Cup was good – but it could have been far better with a little input,” he says.

Afrisun East Rand Community Trust CEO Sandy Hattingh, shares the African Bay team’s enthusiasm for developing the service industry. “The Afrisun Trust is all about developing local talent and supporting our communities,” she says. “The World Cup provides us with the perfect incentive to ensure that local and international visitors will be well looked-after by professional and superbly-trained staff, which can only benefit the country as a whole going forward.”

The first group of students have already graduated – many with distinction – and a new intake is set to begin their training early in the new year.
