AERCT and Carnival City team up to keep Ekurhuleni Communities Warm This Winter

Blanket GiveawayThe Afrisun East Rand Community Trust (AERCT) has teamed up with Carnival City CSI to bring warmth and comfort to Ekurhuleni in June.

Two Hundred Thousand Rand worth of blankets were purchased from a local supplier and handed out during youth Month, June, to child headed families, HIV/AIDS orphaned children and abandoned children.

On Saturday the, the first group of Four Hundred, identified from Vosloorus received, a warm blanket, soup, rolls, slippers and the toddlers received a soft toy. The hand over was done at the Vosloorus SAPS, with volunteers from the community assisting and SAPS officers in attendance.

CEO of AERCT, Sandy Hattingh confirmed that Vosloorus SAPS were the overall winners of the Afrisun SAP Merit Awards in 2010 and therefore they were requested to arrange the hand over. “We need to support the men and women in uniform with regard to the building of relationships with the community, what better way than to have the 2010 Merit Winners handing out warm soup and blankets” We all seek to improve the lives of those in communities around us by raising awareness of important causes.

AERCT Executive Trustee Sandy Hattingh has nothing but praise for the initiative of this winter warmth. “AERCT and Carnival City are committed to improving the lives of our fellow Ekurhuleni communities” she says. “We lead by example, in assuring the safety and basic human rights for all”.

The distribution of goods completed, the group were then escorted by SAPS to the Vosloorus Old Age Home, where linen, towels, soap and bath mats were handed over to the management of the home, for the elderly residents.

The remaining blankets will be handed out by AERCT Trustees and Carnival City CSI members in all surrounding areas throughout June.
