AERCT & Carnival City lend Diski Nine 9 tournament a helping hand

The Afrisun East Rand Community Trust (AERCT) and Carnival City have announced a sponsorship deal with the annual Diski Nine 9 soccer and netball tournament to the value of R50 000.

The tournament, which will be held in Vosloorus, runs from 18-30 December 2009, is a competition featuring both football and netball. The 11-a-side football competition is open to teams from the Under 14 and Senior categories (over 14), while the netball competition has no age restriction.

The Diski Nine 9 tournament is now in it’s 6th year and will be held on Grounds C &D, behind the Ma Sisulu Hostel in Vosloorus. Teams will first play a round robin tournament format before progressing to the knockout rounds based on points accumulated.

First prize in the senior soccer category is R18 000, a full soccer kit, medals and a trophy, while the losing team will pick up R10 000, a full soccer kit, medals and a trophy. The other top 8 teams will each receiver a full soccer kit. The Under 14 winners and runners up receive trophies, full soccer kit and medals. Individual awards in both categories include man of the match, flair moment, top goalscorer and goalkeeper of the tournament. The winners and runners-up in the netball category will receive full kit sets as well as medals and trophies.

VOSTOC Diski Nine 9 Chairman Lucky Simelane says the tournament hopes to set the tone for the 2010 World Cup in Vosloorus. “The World Cup is for each and every one of the people of South Africa, so we want to use this tournament to give people a taste of what the professionals will bring to South Africa in June next year,” he says. “We’ve seen some unbelievable talent at previous Diski Nine 9 tournaments and we’re sure that with the assistance of our kind sponsors, including Carnival City and the AERCT, this will be our best and most successful tournament yet.”

The VOSTOC Diski Nine 9 tournament is sponsored by VOSTOC, Carnival City, AERCT, Ekurhuleni Metropolitain Council and Mvelaphanda.
